Calling all Puddle Parents!

Interesting term isn’t it?

Becoming a parent is a time for trying to figure out what is the best way to parent your child. Is it the way you were brought up? The way your friends and family tell you to? Or is there a book for the perfect parent that we all don’t know about? Either way, it is something we are all trying to figure out.

That is parenting – trial and error. We all need to understand that childhood is the same, we have to allow room for mistakes to happen in order to be able to learn from them and figure out solutions to problems.

A Puddle Parent is a parent that encourage their children to investigate their own thinking, promote creativity and innovation. They emphasise on the learning of Kindness and authenticity, experiences over academic scales and self satisfaction over the praise of others.

Their hope for their child’s future is based on happiness rather than success, regardless of what they end up doing as a career. That they are happy with what they have chosen in life. This doesn’t mean they just leave their child to their own devices, no, it means that they are there to support, advise and assist where they can but ultimately the choice is the child’s.

Like you, no one should be telling you what you should do unless it makes you happy, correct? You know what makes you stressed, you know what makes you unhappy or how others make you feel and vice versa. Only you can decide on whether you want it to continue or not. And I’m pretty sure the next time it happens you know what you should and shouldn’t do about it.

A Child is exactly the same. There are things in life that they will learn that promotes their daily living skills which is essentially supported by parents and everyone who cares for them. Helping them understand cause and effect to understand it fully and learn where they need to. But when it comes to their interests and passions only they can discover it and motivate themselves towards it because it is what they choose to do. All they need is the opportunity to try.

Children will gravitate towards interests that bring them happiness and that they are genuinely interested in. They will try on other things from the people around them to see if it fits them – some will stick some won’t, but at least they have a choice.

They will mess up, they will fail and they will forget things – and that’s ok, we are all human! It’s what they do about it that will build their stepping stones to learning and resilience, help them choose their own path that is not about competition but about life, empathy and the world in which we live in.

If you are a puddle parent and are looking for a 2 – 3yr old programme that might just be perfect for your tiny human contact us for us for a visit or to enrol in Juniors Urban Forest.

It’s Spring Already?!

It may have been snowing last week but here it has been nothing but sunshine! Take a look at what the Hangout Kids Committee have planned for Easter. These kids know their stuff when they are planning adventures and activities.

Contact us now via email: kids@juniorsdaycare.com or drop us a line on 02882257021 to book your child’s place in The Hangout

Firstly our Varsity programme is FULL! that’s right, our alternative preschool programme is a hit so we would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for believing in us. We couldn’t be happier! You guys are the greatest supporters, truly!

As for what we have been getting up to, well, it has been fantastic! the Varsity kids have taken us on a great learning journey where we’ve even met some of our own local heroes, the importance of their roles and discovered new found skills. From investigating every mode of transport with RLNI and the Airfield, to the PSNI, our local traders and health care professionals. It has been amazing to see just how much the children have blossomed – They’ve taught us alot!

Mini j’s & Varsity have been off exploring the Wild Woods at An Creagán. This great programme allows children to explore the fabulous opportunities of play and learning that a lot of children don’t get the chance to.

We have been at The Wild Woods Campfire, Gross Motor Skills Shared Play, Environmental Arts and the beautiful Play Garden!

Coming up in May we have the Bug and Beasties session and then in June we finish with a teddy Bears Picnic.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience in working with Peter Brown who is the Biodiversity Education Officer and have learnt so much about incorporating even more natural play into our daily routines. Don’t worry mother Earth our Eco-warriors are in training!

And it’s doesn’t stop there! The Hangout have been in full flow with their main focus: Inclusion and Diversity; demonstrating aspects of Integrity through projects for all the areas in the Day Care. This includes knitting, revamping old resources and creating comforters – all in the next few months. The children raised £200 at Christmas in aid of the Homeless and divided out £100 towards to the Homeless and £100 towards their Farm Set – we have to say they did an awesome job in planning the event, making all of the products and managing the money – Look out Alan Sugar these kids are the future of business!

We promise not leave it as long the next time, but we know you all understand that when there is this array of creativity going on it can be tough to keep up!

See you soon!

Preschool: Decisions, Decisions…

If we asked you what was your fondest memory when  you were younger it more than likely involved one of the following:

*an interaction with someone you loved or has inspired you,
*an experience that you embraced every second of,
*or an event that enthralled you completely.

Even now, thinking about it you can still smell the smells, feel the feels and remember every detail about that experience. (Isn’t the brain is a wonderful, wonderful thing.) Your ability to recall it so clearly because of the feeling it gave you is still there.

(Like remembering the words to a song but not what you did yesterday? We hear ya!)

This is because it was something you were so involved in that you absorbed every little bit that it has now become a firm imprint in your memory bringing a warm sense of joy  each time you relive it.

This memory sparked something in you to become a part of your perception on life – be it your ethics, values, principles, morals whatever it is it, it has become a part of you.
This is the bases of learning, these are types of opportunities that spark children’s learning  capabilities into drive for academics in life – this is Varsity.

Being an urban setting does not restrict our exploration of learning environments. We go on ventures everyday to discover the depths of nature, daily living, our community and local businesses, so children can explore an idea about real topics thoroughly.

We investigate each observation, discussion or topic the children bring to us and it is our job to support their learning in what has tweaked their interests – not our, theirs!

You see, the process of learning involves making connections and relationships between feelings, ideas, words and actions. As we follow an emergent curriculum it takes upon the delivery of learning based on the children and community. We are inspired by Highscope and Reggio Emilia where we have tailored a bespoke programme for it to effectively apply life long learning skills and encourage the love for academic learning in later life.

From getting their groceries to happiness lessons, the Varsity children revel in delight every day because this is their programme, their time, their learning and nothing makes us prouder than the fantastic feedback of how these children have grown as individuals ready to take on the next step of their learning.

To find out more about enrolment we would be delighted for you to join us for an Afternoon Tea Party – hosted by the Varsity team, children and their families on Saturday 19th January from 1pm – 3pm.
